Formula 1

In 1986, Chuck Wahl and Jeff Hubert formed the Double Vision F-1 race team. We spent years traveling around the country racing our favorite RC airplanes. Well like all things we spent money having fun, got burned out (I’m not sure why) and gave it a rest. Here are a few of our pictures and who knows, maybe soon we will be back at it. There’s been some talk and there really is NOTHING like flying an RC F-1 at 200mph.

You can't build just 1 in F1

These airplanes don't have a long life span. But you gotta love'em when they do go!

Test flying at crows landing. The plane is painted with Imron.

It all starts with scale judging to determine take off order. Best of show gets to take off 1st every heat. Chuck won best of show in San Luis Obispo in 1986 at the state championship race. There were 134 Airplanes judged and this was "Show Dog". Yes it did survive the weekend!

Crows Landing CA. Chuck was CD for the NMPRA west coast championship race. I even still managed to get in some racing with the help of Jeff.

Before F1 there was pattern. Here are the California boys in Texas for the 81 AMA Nationals.

A good friend once said "You've gotta practice your building to practice your flying". (He was also a F1 racer!)

This was probably the best pattern plane in the late 70's and early 80's. The Deception designed by Smokin Jimmy Kimbro.

Later came the Double Vision. This unique mid thrust/mid wing/mid stab Aerobatic plane was very stable, both right side up and upside down. You had to be VERY carefull, the name Double Vision sometimes gave you Double vision when inverted.
